What to Wear for Branding Photoshoot
Figuring out what to wear for your brand photoshoot can be so fun. It ALSO can be like trying to remember where you left your keys. Just blank empty void up there. Outfit choices are one of the hardest parts of planning a branding shoot. I find that clients often struggle with what to wear. I like to provide as much inspiration and ideas as possible to help them plan. So00 all my best tips for outfit planning and LOADS of inspiration from my past clients are just a scroll away!
Tips for outfit planning
LOOK UP INSPIRATION
A major duh moment. But luckily you are in the right place. I have loads of fit inspo for you from the gorgeous people who’ve been in front of my lens. You can totally also search up Pinterest or go old school and find a magazine! Inspo is everywhere if you let it be.
SHOP/ORDER EARLY
Shipping can be so fast these days, we tend to forget that we need to give ourselves extra time in case something goes wrong. Shipping delays, fit issues, wardrobe malfunctions. Trust me, you will sleep better at night once you stop putting it off for later anyway.
FIND OUTFITS THAT TRULY BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE
Clothes should make us feel good! Remember, you get to pick here. Don’t pick an outfit you will feel super self conscious in or something scratchy or uncomfortable. You look best when you feel best.
INCLUDE YOUR BRAND COLORS
Your photos should feel like your brand, down to the little details. Work your brand colors into your fits if you can. Nothing beats a bold pop of color—especially when it is on brand.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE “EXTRA”
Just don’t. And don’t be afraid to step a bit out of your comfort zone. Again, pick what makes you feel confident but TRUST ME, your fit is NOT too much. You have just the right amount of much for your brand.
Really use your imagination here—I want to spark new ideas here. Ready for the inspo?
Neutrals
You can’t go wrong with neutrals.. But I think there are some great ways to dress up neutrals.. Instead of doing jeans with a white shirt.. Let’s dress it up a bit by going with a matching set, blazer, pairing with fun heels or accessories. The little pops of fun details make great photos. When going with neutrals - make sure you don’t pick something that washes you out.. A self tan before your shoot can also help with that!
A lot of people gravitate toward neutrals, and for good reason! They make for a clean, sleek look. It’s a great direction to go if you don’t have set brand colors or haven’t found and cute clothes or accessories with your brand colors.
Pop of Color
Neutrals are great, but have you experimented with color!?!? A bright/fun color has been one of my favorites to photograph. I’m obviously a sucker for pink, but I have been loving seeing how others bring in bright colors. I also love it photographed against a seamless paper - a color block situation makes for fun photos. Don’t be afraid of color!! Bonus: A colored pant or blazer can be a great way to throw in color while making a statement.
If you want to stop people mid scroll, you should probably incorporate an on brand color pop somewhere. You get to incorporate your brand colors as a statement piece. Why would you NOT wear your brand colors loud and proud?
Fun Sleeves
I love the lace sleeve trend - it’s a fun way to dress up an outfit.. Same with the pearl detailing tops!! They bring in an extra piece that makes an outfit pop. This is my definition of don’t be afraid to be extra!! You can go glam and have fun with it!!
The details matter when creating images that represent your brand. Lace or detailed sleeves is a great way to bring on the details that feel on brand.
Jeans + a Blazer
A lot of people want to do jeans but want to dress them up.. I love how a blazer/jean combo looks. It’s the perfect combo of casual with professional. I recommend dressing it up with a heel/fun shoe + belt!!
This is another outfit idea you can’t really go wrong with. Jeans bring a bit of casual personality to balance the professional edge of the blazer. Jeans and a blazer with some added accessories is one of the easiest ways to look put together.
Casual Jean Fit
Speaking of jeans, I want to share some inspo on how you can dress up jeans but also create a casual vibe. A classic button down with jeans is a great option. A patterned top is a great way to add a little spice to the outfit. I love how a simple patterned top can elevate the jeans. A sweater can be a good option if you are going for a cozy look vs. more of the professional/casual.
Bonus - a fun jean!! I love jeans that have a little extra “bling”.. Some have done rhinestone/peal details. Most often people think about going for a fun top.. But I love a fun pant!! Don’t be afraid to go a little different with the jeans.
Off The Shoulder
I don’t see many do this.. However, I’m a sucker for an off the shoulder moment! I think it really flatters women and creates variety within outfit choices.
Fun Shoe/Accessory
The best way to dress up an outfit is within the details!! I LOVE a fun shoe - it makes for great detail shots and can really elevate an outfit. Whether it’s heels, a patterned shoe, or simple converse/vans.. Shoes matter! Belts + other accessories like a purse, jewelry, etc also play into creating a fun outfit. These small details will also be great in detail shots.
Never underestimate the power of an accessory.
All Black
I see a lot of brands wanting the all black vibe which can create a fierce/edgy look which I love.. Here are a few tips to make your all black outfit even better!! Mix in textures like leather/sequins/sheer in your tops or bottoms. This will help break up the black. The goal is to not look like a blob but like a fierce boss babe. We want to create variety within the tops vs. bottom. A skirt with black tights paired with a black top can also be fun. Just note that poses in skirts can be limited - there will be more standing vs. sitting.
All black can be a great look. If it goes with your brand, play with textures and your all black fit will be a stunner.
Jumpsuit
I’m a sucker for a jumpsuit.. They are professional, easy to move in, you can dress them up or down.. You can’t go wrong with one!! I also love when they are paired with a top that has sheer/bell sleeves under.
Bold Print
I love to see this!! Not many do it because it can be out of their comfort zone. But how fun are these photos because the bold print stands out!! Whether you wish to do a set, dress, or have one statement piece in your pant or top, the bold print will make for bold photos.
